My Current Dilemma

This video makes me nostalgic. For what, I don’t know. I’m already in Europe. I don’t miss home…yet. There’s just something that this video makes you feel. A mixture between old and new, a combination of regret and relief. It’s like getting your heart broken and then realizing it feels kind of good. I don’t know. Just watch and enjoy the harmonies. So to keep up with the times and expand my indie music repertoire, I started to follow Said The Gramophone. It’s a wonderful mp3 blog written by what I can only assume are wonderful people/writers. And in true Amy fashion, I stayed up till 3 in the AM browsing their archives for bands that I might have overlooked in the past few months. Lo and behold, when the clock struck 2:47AM, I was reading a review of my best friend’s band Cuddle Magic. About five minutes after, I was laughing so hard I could barely breathe at what appeared to be my BFF himself (see picture). It’s a very appropriate photo, and though it made me laugh and hold back the green tea from coming out my nose, it made me miss him more than anything and it also made me painfully sad that I won’t be able to see that face of his when he visits in July.

So this post is dedicated to Max Haft and all his silly Jewish, jazzy antics. I hope he’s in Boston sipping a cappuccino in a cafe wishing he were here with me, driving around town in his rickety Volvo, smoking Gauloises cigarettes while figuring out harmonies to Joni Mitchell tunes. Because that’s exactly what I’m wishing for right now.

The wind’s blowin’ up a gale today! This got me to thinking how some of my favorite things to wake up to are 1) the flickering sun through the shades, 2) the sounds of scraping branches brushing up on the window orchestrated by said wind, and 3) the nostalgic trumpets and trills of Beirut. Yes, these all make for an ideal Saturday morning if you enjoy a lot of movement in the start of your day.
